Mesjid Raya, one of the largest mosques in Indonesia, designed by Dutch architects and built in 1906 showcases Italian marble ornaments, impressive black domes and stained-glass windows. The mosque is located near Maimoon Palace, on JL. SM Raja, and is open for tourists, except when it's prayer time. Be careful to dress propery and take your shoes off at the entrance.
The Mesjid Raya, literally translates to the Grand Mosque, is truly a grand sight. It is a huge, majestic structure that was built in 1906 using Moorish architecture with the minarets. Viewing the mosque from the outside, you will also be able to notice a wide slab covered square which adds both simplicity and serenity to the the experience of viewing the mosque.
However, only Muslims are allowed to go inside Mesjid Raya.
